Draft Grade — Bears
Overall C-
ValueB NeedB+ TradesF FutureA-
The Bears let White III fall into their laps, and walked away with a C-.

The trade table was where it all came apart. The Bears shipped out far more than they hauled back, and no amount of spin dresses up the bill. It washes out to a C-, no better and no worse.

On value alone, White III makes the weekend a net positive. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. Reaching for James left real value on the table behind him.

It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.

So much rides on Ashton Jeanty that the real verdict is a season or two away.

Pick Analysis
Pick6 Rnd1 Ashton Jeanty
In the Round 1 slot they get a featured back. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick72 Rnd3 Quinshon Judkins
Quinshon Judkins at Round 3, Pick 8 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick111 Rnd4 Charles Grant
Taking Charles Grant in slot 111 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick178 Rnd6 Upton Stout
A premium they did not need to pay, Upton Stout a notch or two before his time. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick188 Rnd6 JJ Pegues
JJ Pegues in the 188th overall pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick209 Rnd6 Caleb Rogers
They read the board right and Caleb Rogers was the payoff at the 209th pick. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick233 Rnd7 Shemar James
They liked Shemar James enough to skip the value, taking him in the Round 7 slot. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick240 Rnd7 Ricky White III
Ricky White III in pick No. 240 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It fills a real need, too.
