Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall B-
ValueB NeedB- TradesD FutureA
The Commanders won the night they stopped Slaughter from sliding. Grade: B-.

Thirty-one other rooms let Jake Slaughter slide, and the Commanders were the ones holding the card at the 68th overall pick. Highway robbery. The bottom line is a respectable B-.

That tight end hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Every board in the league had Castell lower, and that gap is the story. A small leak at the table, if not a fatal one.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.

Pick Analysis
Pick25 Rnd1 Arvell Reese
In the 25th overall pick they get a downhill thumper at linebacker, and a steal at that. Need was not the driver here.
Pick59 Rnd2 Dillon Thieneman
Dillon Thieneman slipping to Round 2, Pick 27 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick68 Rnd3 Jake Slaughter
Jake Slaughter at the Round 3 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick90 Rnd3 Nyck Harbor
Nyck Harbor in pick 90 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick152 Rnd5 DeMonte Capehart
A straight-up fair deal on DeMonte Capehart at the 152nd pick, value and slot in agreement. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick186 Rnd6 Monroe Mills
Nothing to complain about; Monroe Mills went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick191 Rnd6 Le'Veon Moss
By-the-book stuff, Le'Veon Moss at slot 191 squarely in line with his ranking. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick220 Rnd7 Jordan Castell
They jumped the gun on Jordan Castell, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Pick249 Rnd7 Barion Brown
A tidy little value on Barion Brown in slot 249, a step better than break-even. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
