Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B-
ValueC+ NeedB TradesA+ FutureD-
Nobody dealt better than the 49ers this weekend: B-.

The real work happened on the phones. The 49ers fleeced their trade partners, turning their picks into a noticeably bigger pile than they started with. The bottom line is a respectable B-.

If one pick saves this weekend, it is Cephus. They are betting Keegan proves the room right and everyone else wrong.

The running back spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Adding Amon-Ra St. Brown by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies.

Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.

Pick Analysis
Pick96 Rnd3 Zak Zinter
Zak Zinter in slot 96 is fair value, right on his grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick98 Rnd3 Matt Goncalves
A reach for Matt Goncalves in the 98th overall pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick132 Rnd4 Drake Nugent
They paid a round early for Drake Nugent in the Round 4 slot, more than the board wanted. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick177 Rnd6 Chau Smith-Wade
Chau Smith-Wade is a better player than pick No. 177 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick210 Rnd6 Kingsley Eguakun
They paid up for Kingsley Eguakun at pick 210 when waiting would have done the job. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick213 Rnd6 Myles Jones
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Myles Jones. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick215 Rnd6 Trevor Keegan
A real head-scratcher, Trevor Keegan in Round 6, Pick 40 is miles ahead of his ranking. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick237 Rnd7 Daequan Hardy
They read the board right and Daequan Hardy was the payoff at No. 237. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick256 Rnd7 Joshua Cephus
Value with a capital V on Joshua Cephus in No. 256, a genuine coup. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
