Draft Grade — Bears

FutureB+
The Bears left with their quarterback, and a B+ to match. You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Bears did exactly that with Garret Greenfield in the Round 5 slot.
So much rides on Bo Nix that the rest of the class almost grades on a curve behind him. Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck.
The cornerback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The Frazier value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick Analysis
Pick9
Rnd1
Bo Nix
In the Round 1 slot they get their guy under center for the next decade, a steep price for the projection. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick16
Rnd1
Jared Verse
A reasonable price with a little left over, Jared Verse in pick 16. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick17
Rnd1
Taliese Fuaga
In the 17th overall pick they get an anchor for the offensive line. A real need, handled.
Pick27
Rnd1
Braden Fiske
In Round 1, Pick 27 they get a wrecking ball inside, even if it was a touch early. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick36
Rnd2
Ladd McConkey
They did well to land Ladd McConkey in No. 36, just ahead of his grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick50
Rnd2
Dominick Puni
They reached a country mile for Dominick Puni at pick No. 50, and the board is aghast. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick75
Rnd3
Zach Frazier
Taking Zach Frazier in Round 3, Pick 11 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. The roster fit checks out.
Pick81
Rnd3
Renardo Green
Renardo Green is a better player than the 81st pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick122
Rnd4
Jared Wiley
A reach for Jared Wiley in the Round 4 slot; a little patience would have been rewarded. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick139
Rnd5
Garret Greenfield
They left a pile of value on the table to take Garret Greenfield this early at slot 139. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick144
Rnd5
Bucky Irving
Value with a capital V on Bucky Irving in the 144th overall pick, a genuine coup. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
