Draft Grade — Bears
Overall
A-
ValueC+

FutureA+
Nobody dealt better than the Bears this weekend: A-. There was a run on nobody at that position, and the Bears started one anyway for Sam Hartman, 63 picks ahead of schedule. The board rewarded a patient, disciplined weekend with a A-.
They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. If one pick saves this weekend, it is Ford.
The running back spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. It is not that Solomon is a bad player; it is that the Bears had louder needs to answer first.
In the end it comes back to Olumuyiwa Fashanu, and a haul good enough to build on right away.
Pick Analysis
Pick6
Rnd1
Olumuyiwa Fashanu
In the 6th overall pick they get a long-term starter on the line at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick9
Rnd1
Rome Odunze
In slot 9 they get a difference-maker at receiver. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick19
Rnd1
Byron Murphy II
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Byron Murphy II. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick27
Rnd1
Jackson Powers-Johnson
They paid sticker price for Jackson Powers-Johnson in the Round 1 slot, and that is fine. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick33
Rnd2
Darius Robinson
Darius Robinson at No. 33 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick69
Rnd3
Jalen McMillan
Jalen McMillan in Round 3, Pick 5 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick101
Rnd4
Zak Zinter
They took Zak Zinter at par in the 101st overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. It fills a real need, too.
Pick103
Rnd4
Javon Solomon
Of all the spots to shop, they chose OLB-EDGE. Javon Solomon in the Round 4 slot leaves running back for later.
Pick105
Rnd4
Jaylin Simpson
They talked themselves into Jaylin Simpson at Round 4, Pick 5, and the board did not agree. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick111
Rnd4
Tommy Eichenberg
Tommy Eichenberg at the 111th pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick123
Rnd4
Isaiah Williams
A wild overpay on Isaiah Williams in pick No. 123, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. The roster fit checks out.
Pick143
Rnd5
Jared Wiley
Value said wait; Jared Wiley in slot 143 says they were not listening. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick220
Rnd6
Sam Hartman
A real head-scratcher, Sam Hartman in No. 220 is miles ahead of his ranking. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick222
Rnd7
Jaylan Ford
Somehow Jaylan Ford was still sitting there in pick 222, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. A need, and now a little less of one.
