Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall D
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesF FutureA
The Cowboys finally solved quarterback, and it carried them to a D.

When the story of this class is written, it opens with Drake Nugent at the Round 5 slot, a reach of 36 spots that the board flatly disagrees with.

They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. Jayden Daniels gives the offense a face and a plan, and the grade leans heavily on whether he hits.

The cornerback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. However the rest shakes out, Flournoy at that price is a win they earned.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and cornerback is still a hole.

Pick Analysis
Pick6 Rnd1 Jayden Daniels
In pick No. 6 they get a franchise quarterback. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick24 Rnd1 Jackson Powers-Johnson
In slot 24 they get a blindside protector, even if it was a touch early. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick27 Rnd1 Adonai Mitchell
In Round 1, Pick 27 they get a difference-maker at receiver at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick47 Rnd2 T'Vondre Sweat
T'Vondre Sweat at the 47th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The roster fit checks out.
Pick56 Rnd2 Jonathon Brooks
Nice patience on Jonathon Brooks, who had no business lasting to the 56th overall pick. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick87 Rnd3 Brandon Dorlus
Brandon Dorlus slipping to No. 87 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick174 Rnd5 Drake Nugent
Drake Nugent at slot 174 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick186 Rnd6 Trente Jones
A reach for Trente Jones in the 186th pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick216 Rnd6 Ryan Flournoy
They read the board right and Ryan Flournoy was the payoff at the Round 6 slot. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick233 Rnd7 Michael Barrett
No drama and no debate, Michael Barrett went about where he belonged in pick No. 233. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick244 Rnd7 Anim Dankwah
A wild overpay on Anim Dankwah in pick 244, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
