Draft Grade — Texans
Overall D
ValueB NeedB TradesF FutureB-
The Texans cashed the board's mistake on Burke: D.

Somebody took the Texans to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it. A weekend that fought the value and lost, hence the D.

Every board in the league had Giddens lower, and that gap is the story. They will regret leaving offensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it. Getting Burke where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.

Job largely done: running back settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and offensive lineman is still a hole.

Pick Analysis
Pick23 Rnd1 Nic Scourton
In pick 23 they get a problem off the edge. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick53 Rnd2 Denzel Burke
Denzel Burke in Round 2, Pick 21 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick54 Rnd2 Abdul Carter
Taking Abdul Carter in pick No. 54 is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick85 Rnd3 Nazir Stackhouse
Nazir Stackhouse in slot 85 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick87 Rnd3 DJ Giddens
They talked themselves into DJ Giddens at No. 87, and the board did not agree. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick117 Rnd4 Nic Anderson
They paid up for Nic Anderson at the 117th overall pick when waiting would have done the job. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick149 Rnd5 Andrew Mukuba
They took Andrew Mukuba at par in No. 149, which is nothing to complain about. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick213 Rnd7 Tyler Van Dyke
They jumped the gun on Tyler Van Dyke, taking him earlier than his grade liked. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
