Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B
ValueB- NeedA- TradesB FutureB+
The 49ers won the night they stopped Laloulu from sliding. Grade: B.

The 49ers spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Iapani Laloulu, the No. 100 name on the board, in Round 4, Pick 27.

For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. The Lacy reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.

The trade work was a quiet net positive. Offensive lineman was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.

Pick Analysis
Pick47 Rnd2 Ryan Wingo
A straight-up fair deal on Ryan Wingo at the 47th pick, value and slot in agreement. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick58 Rnd2 Kewan Lacy
They jumped the gun on Kewan Lacy, taking him earlier than his grade liked. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick92 Rnd3 Terrance Carter Jr.
By-the-book stuff, Terrance Carter Jr. at the Round 3 slot squarely in line with his ranking. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick127 Rnd4 Iapani Laloulu
They will replay Iapani Laloulu at the 127th overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick133 Rnd4 Jayden Jackson
Value with a capital V on Jayden Jackson in No. 133, a genuine coup. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick138 Rnd4 Mateen Ibirogba
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Mateen Ibirogba. The roster fit checks out.
Pick171 Rnd5 Jacob Ponton
A clean, defensible pick in Round 5, Pick 33 with a little surplus value in Jacob Ponton. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
