Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B
ValueC+ NeedB TradesA+ FutureD
The 49ers fleeced the room on the phones and earned a B.

There was a run on nobody at that position, and the 49ers started one anyway for Bear Alexander, 45 picks ahead of schedule. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.

The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Nwokobia.

It is not that Moore is a bad player; it is that the 49ers had louder needs to answer first. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped running back, which is a strange place to end up.

Good work on the whole, with running back the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick28 Rnd1 Jordyn Tyson
Fair-plus on Jordyn Tyson, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick59 Rnd2 Caleb Tiernan
Caleb Tiernan at pick 59 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick60 Rnd2 Iapani Laloulu
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Iapani Laloulu. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick62 Rnd2 Jaeden Roberts
Jaeden Roberts in Round 2, Pick 30 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick89 Rnd3 Adepoju Adebawore
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Adepoju Adebawore well ahead of where he belonged. It fills a real need, too.
Pick92 Rnd3 Malachi Fields
They let Malachi Fields come to them and pounced at the Round 3 slot. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick94 Rnd3 Kenyon Sadiq
Kenyon Sadiq in the 94th pick is fair value, right on his grade. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick128 Rnd4 Isaiah Nwokobia
They robbed the room for Isaiah Nwokobia here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick134 Rnd4 Austin Romaine
Austin Romaine slid further than he should have, and the 134th overall pick is lovely value for the linebacker. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick137 Rnd4 Rod Moore
They bypassed pressing needs at running back and quarterback to take Rod Moore, a safety that was not the priority.
Pick167 Rnd5 Patrick Payton
The board had cheaper options than Patrick Payton at No. 167, and it noticed. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick174 Rnd5 Bear Alexander
Bear Alexander at Round 5, Pick 36 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick206 Rnd6 Trey Moore
They reached into another round for Trey Moore, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick241 Rnd7 Tosh Baker
Tosh Baker in the Round 7 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
