Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B+
ValueC+ NeedB TradesA+ FutureA
A masterclass at the trade table lands the 49ers a B+.

Nobody else had Princewill Umanmielen anywhere near Round 5, Pick 29. The 49ers did, by 48 spots, and that gap is the whole story. No fireworks, but a solid B+.

Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. On value alone, Nwokobia makes the weekend a net positive. They punted on running back, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.

The veteran additions, Kenyon Green chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not.

Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.

Pick Analysis
Pick60 Rnd2 Caleb Tiernan
A wild overpay on Caleb Tiernan in pick 60, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick93 Rnd3 Logan Jones
No drama and no debate, Logan Jones went about where he belonged in the 93rd pick. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick96 Rnd3 Cashius Howell
Nothing to complain about; Cashius Howell went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick128 Rnd4 Isaiah Nwokobia
Somehow Isaiah Nwokobia was still sitting there in slot 128, and they pounced on premier safety value. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick132 Rnd4 Davison Igbinosun
A reach for Davison Igbinosun in the Round 4 slot; a little patience would have been rewarded. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick134 Rnd4 DeMonte Capehart
DeMonte Capehart in No. 134 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick137 Rnd4 Earnest Greene III
They paid up for Earnest Greene III at the 137th pick when waiting would have done the job. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick167 Rnd5 Princewill Umanmielen
Princewill Umanmielen at No. 167 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick168 Rnd5 Lander Barton
Lander Barton slid further than he should have, and slot 168 is lovely value for the linebacker. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick174 Rnd5 Khalil Barnes
By-the-book stuff, Khalil Barnes at Round 5, Pick 36 squarely in line with his ranking. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Pick206 Rnd6 J.Michael Sturdivant
A reasonable price with a little left over, J.Michael Sturdivant in the Round 6 slot. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick241 Rnd7 Jamari Lyons
They talked themselves into Jamari Lyons at the 241st overall pick, and the board did not agree. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
