Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B
ValueB NeedA- TradesC+ FutureB
The 49ers let Johnson fall and pounced. Final grade: B.

The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The 49ers watched Greg Johnson slide 24 picks past his grade and did not hesitate.

They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Every board in the league had Lacy lower, and that gap is the story. They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.

Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick27 Rnd1 Cam Coleman
In the 27th overall pick they get a weapon on the perimeter at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick58 Rnd2 Kewan Lacy
They jumped the gun on Kewan Lacy, taking him earlier than his grade liked. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick98 Rnd3 Bear Alexander
The board fumbled Bear Alexander all the way to the 98th pick, and they scooped it up. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick127 Rnd4 Greg Johnson
Circle this one: Greg Johnson at slot 127 is a fall that decides a draft. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick133 Rnd4 Justin Evans
Nice patience on Justin Evans, who had no business lasting to pick No. 133. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick138 Rnd4 Mateen Ibirogba
They paid sticker price for Mateen Ibirogba in No. 138, and that is fine. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick171 Rnd5 Zavier Mincey
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Zavier Mincey at pick 171. A minor need, but a need all the same.
