Draft Grade — Texans
Overall B-
ValueC+ NeedB TradesB FutureB-
A respectable, level-headed haul for the Texans: B-.

The Devin Culp pick is the one that will follow the Texans into the fall. They took him 82 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.

They banked enough surplus on Puni to cover a lot of smaller sins. A whole weekend of picks and wide receiver is somehow still a want.

On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with running back the one that mattered most. They trusted the board more than the depth chart.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but wide receiver.

Pick Analysis
Pick51 Rnd2 Cooper Beebe
They went early on Cooper Beebe in the 51st overall pick, and the value did not follow. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick59 Rnd2 Edgerrin Cooper
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Edgerrin Cooper at the Round 2 slot is the proof. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick84 Rnd3 Tyler Davis
They reached a country mile for Tyler Davis at No. 84, and the board is aghast. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick86 Rnd3 Max Melton
Taking Max Melton in slot 86 is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick123 Rnd4 Dominick Puni
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Dominick Puni in the 123rd pick, plain and simple. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick127 Rnd4 Isaac Guerendo
A reach for Isaac Guerendo in pick No. 127; a little patience would have been rewarded. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick188 Rnd6 Josh Proctor
Josh Proctor at No. 188 is a conviction pick that outran the value. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick195 Rnd6 Devin Culp
They talked themselves into Devin Culp at Round 6, Pick 20, and the board did not agree. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick247 Rnd7 Steele Chambers
Steal is underselling it; Steele Chambers at slot 247 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
