Draft Grade — Texans
Overall B-

A solid, sensible weekend for the Texans: B-.

Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Texans spent the 89th overall pick on DJ Giddens, a name most had 83 spots down the list. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.

For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. The Williams steal is the beam this whole class leans on. Running back was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick25 Rnd1 Tyler Booker
In pick 25 they get an anchor for the offensive line, even if it was a touch early. A real need, handled.
Pick58 Rnd2 Alfred Collins
A straight-up fair deal on Alfred Collins at the 58th pick, value and slot in agreement. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick79 Rnd3 Cameron Williams
A slide stopped in Round 3, Pick 15, with Cameron Williams worth more than the price. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick89 Rnd3 DJ Giddens
A real head-scratcher, DJ Giddens in No. 89 is miles ahead of his ranking. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick166 Rnd5 KeAndre Lambert-Smith
They left a pile of value on the table to take KeAndre Lambert-Smith this early at pick No. 166. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick236 Rnd7 Isaac TeSlaa
They did well to land Isaac TeSlaa in the 236th overall pick, just ahead of his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick241 Rnd7 Marcus Yarns
Marcus Yarns in pick No. 241 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
