Draft Grade — Texans
Overall B-
ValueC+ NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
The Texans checked most of the boxes and earned a B-.

They will call it conviction in the building and a reach everywhere else: Collin Oliver, 53 picks early at the 241st overall pick. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.

For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with running back the one that mattered most. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.

Pick Analysis
Pick25 Rnd1 Kenneth Grant
In slot 25 they get a disruptive interior force. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick58 Rnd2 Donovan Jackson
They went early on Donovan Jackson in Round 2, Pick 26, and the value did not follow. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick79 Rnd3 Isaiah Bond
A reasonable price with a little left over, Isaiah Bond in pick No. 79. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick89 Rnd3 Brashard Smith
They left a pile of value on the table to take Brashard Smith this early at No. 89. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick166 Rnd5 Chase Lundt
No drama and no debate, Chase Lundt went about where he belonged in the Round 5 slot. The roster fit checks out.
Pick236 Rnd7 Isaac TeSlaa
A straight-up fair deal on Isaac TeSlaa at pick 236, value and slot in agreement. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick241 Rnd7 Collin Oliver
Collin Oliver at the Round 7 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
