Draft Grade — Texans
Overall B-
ValueC NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
More right than wrong for the Texans, and a B- to prove it.

The KeAndre Lambert-Smith pick is the one that will follow the Texans into the fall. They took him 109 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so.

They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Landing Jackson that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. Job largely done: running back settled and 4 of 8 of the wish list covered.

Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.

Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick25 Rnd1 Kenneth Grant
In pick 25 they get a wrecking ball inside. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick58 Rnd2 Tate Ratledge
Tate Ratledge at the Round 2 slot jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick79 Rnd3 Ozzy Trapilo
They took Ozzy Trapilo at par in Round 3, Pick 15, which is nothing to complain about. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick89 Rnd3 KeAndre Lambert-Smith
A swing that ignored the value entirely, KeAndre Lambert-Smith well ahead of where he belonged. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick166 Rnd5 DJ Giddens
They paid sticker price for DJ Giddens in pick No. 166, and that is fine. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick236 Rnd7 Isaac TeSlaa
Isaac TeSlaa at slot 236 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick241 Rnd7 Cam Jackson
Cam Jackson at the Round 7 slot is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
