Draft Grade — Texans
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
A sensible, unshowy class lands the Texans a B-.

You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Texans did exactly that with Kaden Prather in slot 241. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.

They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.

Pick Analysis
Pick25 Rnd1 Josh Simmons
Josh Simmons at the 25th pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick58 Rnd2 Omarr Norman-Lott
They went early on Omarr Norman-Lott in pick 58, and the value did not follow. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick79 Rnd3 Isaiah Bond
Isaiah Bond in slot 79 lands just on the right side of the ledger. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick89 Rnd3 Charles Grant
By-the-book stuff, Charles Grant at the Round 3 slot squarely in line with his ranking. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick166 Rnd5 DJ Giddens
They paid sticker price for DJ Giddens in No. 166, and that is fine. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick236 Rnd7 Hayden Conner
Hayden Conner at Round 7, Pick 20 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick241 Rnd7 Kaden Prather
Kaden Prather at the 241st overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
