Draft Grade — Texans

FutureB-
The Texans robbed the room for Love. Final grade: B. Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Texans were there to profit. Jeremiyah Love, the No. 7 name on the board, should have been long gone before the 28th overall pick. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
Reaching for Smith left real value on the table behind him. They punted on wide receiver, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same.
Good work on the whole, with wide receiver the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick28
Rnd1
Jeremiyah Love
In Round 1, Pick 28 they get a workhorse for the backfield, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick38
Rnd2
Olaivavega Ioane
They took Olaivavega Ioane at par in slot 38, which is nothing to complain about. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick63
Rnd2
Darrell Jackson Jr.
Darrell Jackson Jr. in the 63rd overall pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick69
Rnd3
Carter Smith
Carter Smith at No. 69 is a conviction pick that outran the value. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick108
Rnd4
Kaytron Allen
A tidy little value on Kaytron Allen in the 108th pick, a step better than break-even. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick128
Rnd4
Skyler Gill-Howard
A premium they did not need to pay, Skyler Gill-Howard a notch or two before his time. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick243
Rnd7
PJ Williams
PJ Williams at pick 243 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick244
Rnd7
Haynes King
A reach on Haynes King in pick No. 244; the board had better options right there. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
