Draft Grade — Texans
Overall
B-
ValueC+
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
Good, not great, for the Texans: B-. You can draft well and still miss the point. The Texans did plenty of tidy work and somehow never got around to wide receiver, which was the need that mattered most. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.
The Singleton reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. Landing Allen that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.
Running back was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick28
Rnd1
Olaivavega Ioane
In Round 1, Pick 28 they get a cornerstone up front, though they paid up to get him. A real need, handled.
Pick38
Rnd2
Emmanuel Pregnon
They paid a round early for Emmanuel Pregnon in No. 38, more than the board wanted. It fills a real need, too.
Pick59
Rnd2
Darrell Jackson Jr.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Darrell Jackson Jr. in the 59th overall pick. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick69
Rnd3
Nicholas Singleton
They left a pile of value on the table to take Nicholas Singleton this early at the 69th pick. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick106
Rnd4
Kaytron Allen
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Kaytron Allen at the Round 4 slot is the proof. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick128
Rnd4
Logan Jones
No edge and no loss on Logan Jones in pick 128; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick166
Rnd5
Aamil Wagner
They did well to land Aamil Wagner in slot 166, just ahead of his grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick243
Rnd7
PJ Williams
PJ Williams at pick No. 243 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick244
Rnd7
Haynes King
They paid up for Haynes King at the 244th overall pick when waiting would have done the job. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
