Draft Grade — Texans
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
Slaughter should have been long gone. The Texans pounced, and earned a B-.

The one they had to fix is still broken. The Texans left wide receiver untouched, and that omission hangs over an otherwise reasonable haul.

That Slaughter pick is the receipt they will wave around later. Every board in the league had Taylor lower, and that gap is the story.

Job largely done: running back settled and 4 of 8 of the wish list covered.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but wide receiver.

Pick Analysis
Pick27 Rnd1 Kayden McDonald
In pick 27 they get a run-stuffing presence up front at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick38 Rnd2 Olaivavega Ioane
No drama and no debate, Olaivavega Ioane went about where he belonged in Round 2, Pick 6. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick58 Rnd2 Jake Slaughter
Jake Slaughter at pick No. 58 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick69 Rnd3 Brian Parker II
They paid sticker price for Brian Parker II in the Round 3 slot, and that is fine. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick115 Rnd4 Monroe Freeling
Monroe Freeling at the 115th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick126 Rnd4 Emmanuel McNeil-Warren
They let Emmanuel McNeil-Warren come to them and pounced at slot 126. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick160 Rnd5 J.C. Davis
Value with a capital V on J.C. Davis in the 160th pick, a genuine coup. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick165 Rnd5 Darius Taylor
Darius Taylor at slot 165 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick242 Rnd7 Trey Zuhn III
They did well to land Trey Zuhn III in Round 7, Pick 26, just ahead of his grade. The roster fit checks out.
Pick243 Rnd7 Shamar Easter
Shamar Easter at pick No. 243 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick252 Rnd7 Robert Spears-Jennings
No edge and no loss on Robert Spears-Jennings in the Round 7 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
