Draft Grade — Texans
Overall
B-
ValueC
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
A respectable, level-headed haul for the Texans: B-. If confidence were a draft strategy, the Texans would have aced it. Nazir Stackhouse at Round 4, Pick 26 is 65 spots clear of where he belonged. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.
They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. They left with running back solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick Analysis
Pick25
Rnd1
Tyler Booker
In Round 1, Pick 25 they get a long-term starter on the line, though they paid up to get him. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick58
Rnd2
Alfred Collins
Alfred Collins at the 58th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick89
Rnd3
Jared Wilson
Jared Wilson at the 89th overall pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick127
Rnd4
Nazir Stackhouse
Value said wait; Nazir Stackhouse in pick No. 127 says they were not listening. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick167
Rnd5
Dont'e Thornton Jr.
A straight-up fair deal on Dont'e Thornton Jr. at No. 167, value and slot in agreement. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick243
Rnd7
Marcus Yarns
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Marcus Yarns. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
