Draft Grade — Lions
Overall

FutureB-
Good, not great, for the Lions: B. It is the swing that defines the weekend: Pat Bryant in pick 102, a good 47 spots before the room expected him. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
They will regret leaving linebacker for another day if the season turns on it. However the rest shakes out, Pearce Jr. at that price is a win they earned.
Job largely done: cornerback settled and 5 of 9 of the wish list covered. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick28
Rnd1
James Pearce Jr.
In slot 28 they get a double-digit-sack hope, and a steal at that. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick60
Rnd2
Jonah Savaiinaea
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jonah Savaiinaea at the 60th overall pick. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick102
Rnd3
Pat Bryant
A wild overpay on Pat Bryant in pick No. 102, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick130
Rnd4
Nohl Williams
Nohl Williams in Round 4, Pick 28 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick196
Rnd6
Jaylen Reed
Good price on Jaylen Reed in the 196th pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick228
Rnd7
Desmond Watson
By-the-book stuff, Desmond Watson at the Round 7 slot squarely in line with his ranking. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick244
Rnd7
Davin Vann
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Davin Vann well ahead of where he belonged. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
