Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall B
ValueA- NeedB TradesC+ FutureB
Grand theft in the Round 6 slot: the Cowboys steal McLaughlin and grade out a B.

The board owed the Cowboys one, and it paid up: Seth McLaughlin, the No. 172 name on the board, sitting there at No. 211 like a gift left on the doorstep. More right than wrong, and a B to match.

If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes. They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.

Pick Analysis
Pick12 Rnd1 Ashton Jeanty
In No. 12 they get a lead back with juice, outstanding value to boot.
Pick48 Rnd2 Will Johnson
Circle this one: Will Johnson at pick 48 is a fall that decides a draft. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick76 Rnd3 Quinshon Judkins
Quinshon Judkins at the 76th overall pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick149 Rnd5 Anthony Belton
You do not let an offensive lineman like Anthony Belton reach slot 149 and blink. They did not. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick174 Rnd5 Sai'vion Jones
Steal is underselling it; Sai'vion Jones at the Round 5 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick204 Rnd6 Antwane Wells Jr.
Antwane Wells Jr. at Round 6, Pick 28 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick211 Rnd6 Seth McLaughlin
Seth McLaughlin at pick No. 211 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick217 Rnd7 Jaylen Reed
They will replay Jaylen Reed at the 217th pick for years; that is how good the value is. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick224 Rnd7 Oronde Gadsden II
Oronde Gadsden II at pick 224 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick239 Rnd7 Karene Reid
They robbed the room for Karene Reid here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick247 Rnd7 Jordan Hancock
Jordan Hancock in the 247th overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick253 Rnd7 Isaac TeSlaa
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Isaac TeSlaa in slot 253. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
