Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B
ValueB NeedA- TradesB- FutureB-
Williams should have been long gone. The Patriots pounced, and earned a B.

The Patriots did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Savion Williams fell into pick No. 144. Good, not great, and the B says as much.

The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer. If Wester pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.

Pick Analysis
Pick4 Rnd1 Abdul Carter
In the 4th pick they get a premier pass rusher at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick38 Rnd2 Luther Burden III
Luther Burden III slid further than he should have, and No. 38 is lovely value for the wide receiver. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick69 Rnd3 Quinshon Judkins
Fair-plus on Quinshon Judkins, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick77 Rnd3 Ozzy Trapilo
They paid sticker price for Ozzy Trapilo in slot 77, and that is fine. It fills a real need, too.
Pick106 Rnd4 Dylan Fairchild
Dylan Fairchild at the Round 4 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick144 Rnd5 Savion Williams
Taking Savion Williams in the 144th overall pick is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick217 Rnd7 Jason Marshall Jr.
They read the board right and Jason Marshall Jr. was the payoff at Round 7, Pick 1. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick220 Rnd7 Tahj Brooks
Steal is underselling it; Tahj Brooks at pick 220 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. The roster fit checks out.
Pick238 Rnd7 LaJohntay Wester
They paid a round early for LaJohntay Wester in No. 238, more than the board wanted. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
