Draft Grade — Packers
Overall
B-
ValueB
NeedB-
TradesB-
FutureB-
Nothing loud, just a tidy B- for the Packers. The Packers clearly saw something nobody else did in Stefon Thompson, taking him 31 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.
That is a running back worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. They will answer for taking DT-EDGE early while edge rusher, quarterback and other spots went begging.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick Analysis
Pick19
Rnd1
Amarius Mims
In Round 1, Pick 19 they get a long-term starter on the line. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick41
Rnd2
Kamren Kinchens
The board had Kamren Kinchens higher than slot 41, and the safety fell to them anyway. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick51
Rnd2
Tyler Guyton
Tyler Guyton in pick 51 is fair value, right on his grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick83
Rnd3
Maason Smith
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went DT-EDGE with Maason Smith while clear needs at edge rusher, quarterback and other spots sat open.
Pick92
Rnd3
Tommy Eichenberg
Tommy Eichenberg at the 92nd overall pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick119
Rnd4
Donovan Edwards
Donovan Edwards in pick No. 119 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick135
Rnd4
Max Melton
Circle this one: Max Melton at Round 4, Pick 35 is a fall that decides a draft. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick198
Rnd6
Stefon Thompson
Value said wait; Stefon Thompson in pick 198 says they were not listening. A fine player at a spot low on the priority list.
Pick217
Rnd6
Curtis Jacobs
Curtis Jacobs slipping to the 217th pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick219
Rnd6
Jase McClellan
You do not let a running back like Jase McClellan reach the 219th overall pick and blink. They did not. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick240
Rnd7
Isaiah Williams
Isaiah Williams at slot 240 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
