FutureB-
Larceny in the 197th overall pick lands the Bears a B+, Phillips and all. The rest of the league will want that one back. Jordan Phillips tumbling to the Bears in pick No. 197 is a gift they did not have to think twice about. More right than wrong, and a B+ to match.
Every board in the league had Dellinger lower, and that gap is the story. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped cornerback, which is a strange place to end up. They squeezed a little extra out of every move they made.
Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick Analysis
Pick23
Rnd1
Tyler Warren
In Round 1, Pick 23 they get a seam-stretching tight end at a price that makes it sweeter.
Pick39
Rnd2
Kenneth Grant
The board fumbled Kenneth Grant all the way to the 39th pick, and they scooped it up. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick41
Rnd2
Tyler Booker
Tyler Booker in slot 41 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick45
Rnd2
Kaleb Johnson
Kaleb Johnson in pick 45 lands just on the right side of the ledger. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick54
Rnd2
Aireontae Ersery
Good price on Aireontae Ersery in the 54th overall pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick72
Rnd3
Jordan Burch
They left a pile of value on the table to take Jordan Burch this early at pick No. 72. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick87
Rnd3
Jared Wilson
They reached into another round for Jared Wilson, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick149
Rnd5
Lathan Ransom
Lathan Ransom at the Round 5 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick197
Rnd6
Jordan Phillips
They barely believed it either: Jordan Phillips still on the board at Round 6, Pick 19. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick234
Rnd7
Garrett Dellinger
They reached a country mile for Garrett Dellinger at No. 234, and the board is aghast. The roster fit checks out.
Pick235
Rnd7
KeAndre Lambert-Smith
Taking KeAndre Lambert-Smith in slot 235 is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick242
Rnd7
Karene Reid
Karene Reid at the 242nd pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A need, and now a little less of one.
