Draft Grade — Chargers
Overall B+
ValueA- NeedB+ TradesA+ FutureD+
Larceny in pick 137 lands the Chargers a B+, Benson and all.

The rest of the league will want that one back. Trey Benson tumbling to the Chargers in the Round 5 slot is a gift they did not have to think twice about. They moved the roster forward and banked a B+ for it.

The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.

Pick Analysis
Pick5 Rnd1 Malik Nabers
In pick 5 they get a true top target. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick34 Rnd2 Jer'Zhan Newton
Jer'Zhan Newton in slot 34 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick70 Rnd3 Jackson Powers-Johnson
They will replay Jackson Powers-Johnson at the 70th overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. The roster fit checks out.
Pick107 Rnd4 Jeremiah Trotter Jr.
Jeremiah Trotter Jr. at the 107th pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick137 Rnd5 Trey Benson
Somehow Trey Benson was still sitting there in the Round 5 slot, and they pounced on premier running back value. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick140 Rnd5 Erick All
Erick All slid further than he should have, and pick No. 140 is lovely value for the tight end. It fills a real need, too.
Pick181 Rnd6 Tommy Eichenberg
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, Tommy Eichenberg in Round 6, Pick 6, plain and simple. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick225 Rnd7 Evan Williams
By-the-book stuff, Evan Williams at No. 225 squarely in line with his ranking. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick253 Rnd7 Jaylan Ford
You do not let a linebacker like Jaylan Ford reach the Round 7 slot and blink. They did not. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
