Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B-
ValueC- NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
Good, not great, for the 49ers: B-.

Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Frank Gore Jr. at pick 98 is 61 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.

They banked enough surplus on Hart to cover a lot of smaller sins. A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want.

The roster is better shaped than it was, with offensive lineman chief among the fixes.

Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick27 Rnd1 Kingsley Suamataia
Kingsley Suamataia at Round 1, Pick 27 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick59 Rnd2 Zak Zinter
Zak Zinter in pick No. 59 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick90 Rnd3 Brenden Rice
They took Brenden Rice at par in slot 90, which is nothing to complain about. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick98 Rnd3 Frank Gore Jr.
They reached into another round for Frank Gore Jr., and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick127 Rnd4 Luke Lachey
A reach for Luke Lachey in the 127th overall pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick177 Rnd6 Ben Bywater
Value said wait; Ben Bywater in the 177th pick says they were not listening. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick205 Rnd6 Cam Hart
Cam Hart at Round 6, Pick 30 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick213 Rnd6 Tyler Batty
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Tyler Batty. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick215 Rnd6 Taulia Tagovailoa
Taulia Tagovailoa in pick No. 215 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick248 Rnd7 Josh Proctor
A real head-scratcher, Josh Proctor in the 248th overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. A minor itch, scratched.
