Draft Grade — Falcons

FutureC-
The Falcons bet the future on Ward. The board says D-. The trade table was where it all came apart. The Falcons shipped out far more than they hauled back, and no amount of spin dresses up the bill. A D- that will need time and luck to look better.
The whole projection now runs through Cam Ward; hit there and everything else looks smarter. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through offensive lineman. Taylor has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.
That is a safety worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. It is a win-now wager, and the future is the stake.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and offensive lineman is still a hole.
Pick Analysis
Pick15
Rnd1
Cam Ward
In pick No. 15 they get a passer to set the clock by at a price that makes it sweeter. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick18
Rnd1
Mykel Williams
In Round 1, Pick 18 they get juice off the edge. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick46
Rnd2
Malaki Starks
They barely believed it either: Malaki Starks still on the board at the 46th pick. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick50
Rnd2
Jihaad Campbell
A tidy bit of business in slot 50, where Jihaad Campbell graded well above the range. The roster fit checks out.
Pick58
Rnd2
Mason Taylor
A big swing on Mason Taylor at No. 58, well ahead of any board in the building. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick118
Rnd4
Dillon Gabriel
A reach on Dillon Gabriel in the 118th overall pick; the board had better options right there. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick125
Rnd4
RJ Harvey
RJ Harvey at pick 125 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
