Draft Grade — Giants
Overall
A
ValueA-
NeedB+
TradesA+
FutureA+
The Giants let Carter fall and pounced. Final grade: A. Somebody in No. 134 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Giants sat still while Barrett Carter, the No. 87 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. They executed a plan and it shows in the A.
They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want.
Add it up and this is about as clean as a draft weekend gets.
Pick Analysis
Pick33
Rnd2
Emeka Egbuka
Emeka Egbuka slid further than he should have, and the 33rd overall pick is lovely value for the wide receiver. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick45
Rnd2
Mike Green
Mike Green at Round 2, Pick 13 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick102
Rnd4
Gunnar Helm
Taking Gunnar Helm in the Round 4 slot is close to grand larceny; a tight end that good had no business lasting this long. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick134
Rnd4
Barrett Carter
You do not let a linebacker like Barrett Carter reach slot 134 and blink. They did not. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick159
Rnd5
Lathan Ransom
They robbed the room for Lathan Ransom here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
