The Jaguars cashed the board's mistake on Emmanwori: A-. The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Jaguars watched Nick Emmanwori slide 31 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. Just about everything broke right, and the A- follows.
Leaving cornerback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The Grover Stewart pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns. Stockpiling next year's capital is patient, if unglamorous, asset work.
It is a haul that will look even better come September.
Pick Analysis
Pick20
Rnd1
Kenneth Grant
In slot 20 they get an anchor for the defensive front. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick36
Rnd2
Tyler Booker
They paid sticker price for Tyler Booker in the 36th pick, and that is fine. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick51
Rnd2
Nick Emmanwori
Nick Emmanwori at pick No. 51 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick70
Rnd3
Jayden Higgins
Jayden Higgins in the 70th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick88
Rnd3
Mason Taylor
A slide stopped in No. 88, with Mason Taylor worth more than the price. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick106
Rnd4
Donovan Jackson
Donovan Jackson at pick 106 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick125
Rnd4
Hollin Pierce
The board had Hollin Pierce higher than Round 4, Pick 24, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
