Draft Grade — Bengals

The Bengals let Dixon fall and pounced. Final grade: B-. Somebody in pick No. 237 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Bengals sat still while Johnny Dixon, the No. 192 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.
They are betting Davis proves the room right and everyone else wrong. They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick49
Rnd2
Zach Frazier
Zach Frazier in the 49th overall pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick86
Rnd3
Blake Fisher
Blake Fisher at pick No. 86 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The roster fit checks out.
Pick97
Rnd3
Leonard Taylor III
A reach for Leonard Taylor III in slot 97; a little patience would have been rewarded. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick115
Rnd4
Jamari Thrash
Jamari Thrash at pick 115 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick123
Rnd4
Isaiah Davis
A big swing on Isaiah Davis at No. 123, well ahead of any board in the building. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick188
Rnd6
Dwight McGlothern
The board fumbled Dwight McGlothern all the way to the Round 6 slot, and they scooped it up. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick194
Rnd6
Erick All
They paid a round early for Erick All in Round 6, Pick 19, more than the board wanted. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick214
Rnd6
Edefuan Ulofoshio
A real head-scratcher, Edefuan Ulofoshio in the 214th pick is miles ahead of his ranking. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick224
Rnd7
Tahj Washington
Steal is underselling it; Tahj Washington at pick 224 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick237
Rnd7
Johnny Dixon
They will replay Johnny Dixon at pick No. 237 for years; that is how good the value is. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick238
Rnd7
Jowon Briggs
Jowon Briggs at No. 238 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
