Draft Grade — Lions
Overall B
ValueB- NeedB TradesB FutureB-
A solid, sensible weekend for the Lions: B.

You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Lions did exactly that with Sai'vion Jones in the 104th pick. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.

They punted on cornerback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. That Emmanwori pick is the receipt they will wave around later.

Good work on the whole, with cornerback the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick33 Rnd2 Nick Emmanwori
Nick Emmanwori at slot 33 is money in the bank, a safety taken below his worth. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick60 Rnd2 Donovan Jackson
No edge and no loss on Donovan Jackson in the 60th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick94 Rnd3 Tai Felton
Tai Felton at pick No. 94 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick102 Rnd3 Darius Alexander
Nice patience on Darius Alexander, who had no business lasting to the Round 3 slot. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick104 Rnd4 Sai'vion Jones
Sai'vion Jones in Round 4, Pick 2 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick130 Rnd4 Jake Majors
No drama and no debate, Jake Majors went about where he belonged in No. 130. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick196 Rnd6 Howard Cross III
Howard Cross III at the 196th overall pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick228 Rnd7 Jordan Hancock
A quiet steal in the 228th pick: Jordan Hancock for less than the market said. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
