FutureB-
The Lions did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B. The Lions spent real capital to be 36 picks early on Oluwafemi Oladejo, and the board is going to hold them to it. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.
On value alone, Starks makes the weekend a net positive. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped linebacker, which is a strange place to end up.
Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick Analysis
Pick34
Rnd2
James Pearce Jr.
A top-tier edge rusher at a bargain, James Pearce Jr. in Round 2, Pick 2, plain and simple. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick60
Rnd2
Malaki Starks
Malaki Starks at the 60th overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick99
Rnd3
Andrew Mukuba
They read the board right and Andrew Mukuba was the payoff at pick No. 99. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick102
Rnd3
Oluwafemi Oladejo
This one needs a full-page explanation: Oluwafemi Oladejo in No. 102, miles early. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick130
Rnd4
Jake Majors
Jake Majors at the 130th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick154
Rnd5
Luke Kandra
Luke Kandra in slot 154 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick196
Rnd6
KeAndre Lambert-Smith
KeAndre Lambert-Smith in the 196th pick is fair value, right on his grade. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick228
Rnd7
Luke Lachey
They robbed the room for Luke Lachey here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The roster fit checks out.
Pick244
Rnd7
Bilhal Kone
A tidy bit of business in pick 244, where Bilhal Kone graded well above the range. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
