The steal of the weekend belongs to the Patriots and Skattebo: A-. The Patriots spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Cam Skattebo, the No. 114 name on the board, in the Round 7 slot. The sum of the weekend is a deserved A-.
The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own.
It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
In the end it comes back to Tetairoa McMillan, and a haul good enough to build on right away.
Pick Analysis
Pick6
Rnd1
Tetairoa McMillan
In Round 1, Pick 6 they get a home-run threat at receiver. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick36
Rnd2
Malaki Starks
A safety of that caliber at the Round 2 slot is the definition of value, full stop. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick79
Rnd3
Jihaad Campbell
Jihaad Campbell at No. 79 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick103
Rnd4
Tai Felton
Tai Felton at pick 103 is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick138
Rnd5
Jake Majors
They barely believed it either: Jake Majors still on the board at the 138th pick. It fills a real need, too.
Pick219
Rnd7
Rod Moore
You do not let a safety like Rod Moore reach slot 219 and blink. They did not. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick220
Rnd7
Kobe King
They will replay Kobe King at the 220th overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick238
Rnd7
Cam Skattebo
Cam Skattebo at pick No. 238 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
