FutureA
Best value of the weekend goes to the Dolphins for Jackson: B. Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Dolphins were there to profit. Donovan Jackson, the No. 65 name on the board, should have been long gone before the 98th overall pick. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.
Every board in the league had Smith lower, and that gap is the story. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick Analysis
Pick17
Rnd1
Jahdae Barron
In the 17th pick they get an island corner. More want than need.
Pick48
Rnd2
Malaki Starks
A top-tier safety at a bargain, Malaki Starks in pick No. 48, plain and simple. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick98
Rnd3
Donovan Jackson
They robbed the room for Donovan Jackson here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick116
Rnd4
Joshua Farmer
Joshua Farmer in the Round 4 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick135
Rnd4
Logan Brown
They jumped the gun on Logan Brown, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick150
Rnd5
Luke Kandra
A straight-up fair deal on Luke Kandra at pick 150, value and slot in agreement. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick155
Rnd5
RJ Harvey
RJ Harvey at Round 5, Pick 17 is a conviction pick that outran the value. It fills a real need, too.
Pick189
Rnd6
Jack Kiser
Good price on Jack Kiser in slot 189, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick224
Rnd7
Carson Vinson
Carson Vinson in the Round 7 slot is fair value, right on his grade. The roster fit checks out.
Pick231
Rnd7
Ja'Corey Brooks
Ja'Corey Brooks at Round 7, Pick 15 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick253
Rnd7
Donovan Smith
Donovan Smith in pick 253 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
