Abrams-Draine should have been long gone. The Bengals pounced, and earned a B.

Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Bengals were there to profit. Kris Abrams-Draine, the No. 122 name on the board, should have been long gone before the 196th pick. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.

They will need Taylor III to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped tight end, which is a strange place to end up.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the tight end spot they never got to.

Pick Analysis
Pick18 Rnd1 Dallas Turner
In No. 18 they get a problem off the edge at fair value. Need was not the driver here.
Pick49 Rnd2 Xavier Legette
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Xavier Legette at the 49th pick. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick80 Rnd3 Leonard Taylor III
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Leonard Taylor III well ahead of where he belonged. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick116 Rnd4 Audric Estime
Audric Estime in pick 116 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick148 Rnd5 James Williams
A slide stopped in the Round 5 slot, with James Williams worth more than the price. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick175 Rnd5 Max Melton
Max Melton in Round 5, Pick 39 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick196 Rnd6 Kris Abrams-Draine
Taking Kris Abrams-Draine in the 196th overall pick is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick235 Rnd7 Tyrone Tracy Jr.
Tyrone Tracy Jr. at pick No. 235 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick252 Rnd7 Josh Wallace
Josh Wallace at pick No. 252 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
