Draft Grade — Jaguars
Overall C+
ValueC+ NeedB+ TradesD+ FutureB
A mixed bag for the Jaguars, and a C+ to match.

There was a run on nobody at that position, and the Jaguars started one anyway for Joshua Cephus, 54 picks ahead of schedule.

That safety hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. A small leak at the table, if not a fatal one. They went 5 of 9 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.

Hit on Ennis Rakestraw Jr. and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.

Pick Analysis
Pick36 Rnd2 Ennis Rakestraw Jr.
Ennis Rakestraw Jr. at No. 36 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick40 Rnd2 Keon Coleman
They paid sticker price for Keon Coleman in the 40th pick, and that is fine. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick48 Rnd2 Cooper Beebe
A straight-up fair deal on Cooper Beebe at pick 48, value and slot in agreement. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick96 Rnd3 Maason Smith
They paid up for Maason Smith at slot 96 when waiting would have done the job. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick97 Rnd3 Johnny Wilson
They talked themselves into Johnny Wilson at the Round 3 slot, and the board did not agree. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick114 Rnd4 Javon Foster
By-the-book stuff, Javon Foster at Round 4, Pick 14 squarely in line with his ranking. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick116 Rnd4 Kalen King
They reached into another round for Kalen King, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick153 Rnd5 Jaheim Bell
Jaheim Bell at slot 153 is a conviction pick that outran the value. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick212 Rnd6 Joshua Cephus
A wild overpay on Joshua Cephus in No. 212, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick236 Rnd7 Evan Anderson
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Evan Anderson. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
