Draft Grade — Bears
Overall D-
ValueB- NeedB TradesF FutureB-
The Bears bet the future on Williams. The board says D-.

Somebody took the Bears to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it. Hard to defend, and the D- reflects that.

So much rides on Caleb Williams that the rest of the class almost grades on a curve behind him. They are betting Cowing proves the room right and everyone else wrong.

They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The Zinter steal is the beam this whole class leans on.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and interior defensive lineman is still a hole.

Pick Analysis
Pick1 Rnd1 Caleb Williams
In slot 1 they get a passer to set the clock by. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick9 Rnd1 Jared Verse
In the Round 1 slot they get a bendy edge with upside at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick39 Rnd2 Brian Thomas Jr.
A tidy bit of business in the 39th pick, where Brian Thomas Jr. graded well above the range. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick75 Rnd3 Jacob Cowing
They reached a country mile for Jacob Cowing at the 75th overall pick, and the board is aghast. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick110 Rnd4 Zak Zinter
They let Zak Zinter come to them and pounced at pick No. 110. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick127 Rnd4 Jaheim Bell
No drama and no debate, Jaheim Bell went about where he belonged in pick 127. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick146 Rnd5 Grayson Murphy
They talked themselves into Grayson Murphy at No. 146, and the board did not agree. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
