Draft Grade — Jets
Overall B
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
The Jets answered their biggest question with Simpson. Grade: B.

Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Markis Deal at the 254th overall pick is 89 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline.

Ty Simpson gives the offense a face and a plan, and the grade leans heavily on whether he hits. On value alone, Kilgore makes the weekend a net positive. The offensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.

Pick Analysis
Pick3 Rnd1 Ty Simpson
A market-rate quarterback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Ty Simpson. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick32 Rnd1 Denzel Boston
A clean, defensible pick in pick No. 32 with a little surplus value in Denzel Boston. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick35 Rnd2 Arvell Reese
Arvell Reese at pick 35 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick46 Rnd2 Daylen Everette
Daylen Everette at the Round 2 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick103 Rnd4 Akheem Mesidor
A big swing on Akheem Mesidor at No. 103, well ahead of any board in the building. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick146 Rnd5 Jalon Kilgore
The board fumbled Jalon Kilgore all the way to slot 146, and they scooped it up. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick192 Rnd6 Patrick Payton
This one needs a full-page explanation: Patrick Payton in No. 192, miles early. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick205 Rnd6 Barion Brown
A real head-scratcher, Barion Brown in slot 205 is miles ahead of his ranking. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick207 Rnd6 Jaren Kanak
They took Jaren Kanak at par in pick No. 207, which is nothing to complain about. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick239 Rnd7 Dante Dowdell
Value said wait; Dante Dowdell in pick 239 says they were not listening. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick254 Rnd7 Markis Deal
A wild overpay on Markis Deal in Round 7, Pick 40, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. The roster fit checks out.
