Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B-
ValueB NeedB- TradesB- FutureB-
The Patriots let Daniels fall into their laps, and walked away with a B-.

The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Patriots watched Jalon Daniels slide 28 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. The bottom line is a respectable B-.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. If Hobbs pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.

Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.

Pick Analysis
Pick25 Rnd1 Mansoor Delane
In the Round 1 slot they get a lockdown presence outside at fair value.
Pick60 Rnd2 Austin Barber
No edge and no loss on Austin Barber in the 60th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick91 Rnd3 Antonio Williams
Antonio Williams at the 91st pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick116 Rnd4 Emmanuel McNeil-Warren
Emmanuel McNeil-Warren in pick 116 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick126 Rnd4 Michael Trigg
No drama and no debate, Michael Trigg went about where he belonged in Round 4, Pick 26. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick166 Rnd5 Kyle Louis
Kyle Louis at slot 166 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick195 Rnd6 Le'Veon Moss
Le'Veon Moss in pick No. 195 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick208 Rnd6 Bryce Foster
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Bryce Foster. The roster fit checks out.
Pick221 Rnd7 Daevin Hobbs
This one needs a full-page explanation: Daevin Hobbs in No. 221, miles early. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick244 Rnd7 Jalon Daniels
Jalon Daniels in pick No. 244 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
