FutureA
Good, not great, for the Jets: B-. The Jets torched the value chart for Jalen McLeod, taking him 29 spots sooner than anyone had him slotted.
The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. If one pick saves this weekend, it is Sanker. The trades cost them a sliver of value they did not need to spend.
The future picks help the war chest more than the win-now roster.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick Analysis
Pick12
Rnd1
Tyler Warren
In the Round 1 slot they get a moveable chess piece at tight end at fair value.
Pick42
Rnd2
Jayden Higgins
They paid up for Jayden Higgins at pick 42 when waiting would have done the job. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick73
Rnd3
Ozzy Trapilo
They jumped the gun on Ozzy Trapilo, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick110
Rnd4
Joshua Farmer
By-the-book stuff, Joshua Farmer at Round 4, Pick 8 squarely in line with his ranking. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick145
Rnd5
Jonas Sanker
Jonas Sanker slid further than he should have, and the 145th pick is lovely value for the safety. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick162
Rnd5
Dont'e Thornton Jr.
Dont'e Thornton Jr. at the 162nd overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick186
Rnd6
Jalen McLeod
Jalen McLeod at pick No. 186 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick207
Rnd6
Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson
Nothing to complain about; Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
