Draft Grade — Jets
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB- TradesA+ FutureF
Nobody dealt better than the Jets this weekend: B-.

The trade table was a mismatch, and the Jets were on the right end of it, hauling in a fortune in surplus value.

If Daniels pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. Allen falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.

They are betting the present roster is worth a lighter draft next spring. Quarterback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Pick Analysis
Pick12 Rnd1 Kadyn Proctor
In the 12th overall pick they get a blindside protector. A real need, handled.
Pick16 Rnd1 Mansoor Delane
Mansoor Delane in No. 16 lands just on the right side of the ledger. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick18 Rnd1 Arvell Reese
In pick No. 18 they get a downhill thumper at linebacker at a price that makes it sweeter. Need was not the driver here.
Pick21 Rnd1 Cashius Howell
In slot 21 they get a premier pass rusher at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick35 Rnd2 Olaivavega Ioane
A straight-up fair deal on Olaivavega Ioane at Round 2, Pick 3, value and slot in agreement. The roster fit checks out.
Pick36 Rnd2 Emmanuel Pregnon
The board had cheaper options than Emmanuel Pregnon at the 36th pick, and it noticed. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick44 Rnd2 Jake Slaughter
No edge and no loss on Jake Slaughter in pick 44; it is a wash and a sensible one. It fills a real need, too.
Pick49 Rnd2 Anthony Hill Jr.
Anthony Hill Jr. at the Round 2 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Pick60 Rnd2 CJ Allen
Steal is underselling it; CJ Allen at the Round 2 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick82 Rnd3 Darrell Jackson Jr.
No drama and no debate, Darrell Jackson Jr. went about where he belonged in Round 3, Pick 18. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick97 Rnd3 Caden Curry
They paid sticker price for Caden Curry in slot 97, and that is fine. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick99 Rnd3 Bryce Lance
A premium they did not need to pay, Bryce Lance a notch or two before his time. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick102 Rnd4 CJ Daniels
A real head-scratcher, CJ Daniels in pick No. 102 is miles ahead of his ranking. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick103 Rnd4 Jack Endries
They did well to land Jack Endries in the 103rd overall pick, just ahead of his grade. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick116 Rnd4 Mike Washington Jr.
Mike Washington Jr. at pick 116 is a conviction pick that outran the value. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick118 Rnd4 Blake Miller
They took Blake Miller at par in No. 118, which is nothing to complain about. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick144 Rnd5 Tanner Koziol
Tanner Koziol at pick 144 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick147 Rnd5 Pat Coogan
They reached into another round for Pat Coogan, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick153 Rnd5 Kevin Coleman Jr.
Fair-plus on Kevin Coleman Jr., a quiet win that adds up over a draft. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick175 Rnd5 Bud Clark
Bud Clark in slot 175 is fair value, right on his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick178 Rnd5 Josh Moten
By-the-book stuff, Josh Moten at the 178th pick squarely in line with his ranking. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick192 Rnd6 Quinten Joyner
Quinten Joyner in the Round 6 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick194 Rnd6 Daevin Hobbs
Value said wait; Daevin Hobbs in No. 194 says they were not listening. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick206 Rnd6 Isaac Smith
They went early on Isaac Smith in Round 6, Pick 27, and the value did not follow. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick210 Rnd6 Dijon Johnson
A reach for Dijon Johnson in slot 210; a little patience would have been rewarded. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick218 Rnd7 Barion Brown
The board had Barion Brown higher than pick No. 218, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick242 Rnd7 Haynes King
A reasonable price with a little left over, Haynes King in pick 242. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
