Draft Grade — Jets

The Jets did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B. The Jets did not so much draft Garrett Nussmeier as overpay for him, 29 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up. However the rest shakes out, Green at that price is a win they earned.
On the needs board they went 7 of 8, with quarterback the one that mattered most.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick Analysis
Pick2
Rnd1
Rueben Bain Jr.
In Round 1, Pick 2 they get a double-digit-sack hope. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick16
Rnd1
Carnell Tate
In the 16th overall pick they get a go-to option on the outside at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick33
Rnd2
Olaivavega Ioane
Nice patience on Olaivavega Ioane, who had no business lasting to No. 33. It fills a real need, too.
Pick44
Rnd2
Garrett Nussmeier
Garrett Nussmeier in pick No. 44 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick103
Rnd4
Harold Perkins Jr.
A clean, defensible pick in the 103rd pick with a little surplus value in Harold Perkins Jr.. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick175
Rnd5
Taylen Green
Taylen Green at pick 175 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick178
Rnd5
Le'Veon Moss
A tidy little value on Le'Veon Moss in Round 5, Pick 40, a step better than break-even. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick192
Rnd6
Thaddeus Dixon
Thaddeus Dixon slid further than he should have, and pick 192 is lovely value for the cornerback. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick206
Rnd6
Robert Spears-Jennings
They paid sticker price for Robert Spears-Jennings in pick No. 206, and that is fine. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick209
Rnd6
Jordan White
They went early on Jordan White in No. 209, and the value did not follow. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick218
Rnd7
Riley Mahlman
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Riley Mahlman. The roster fit checks out.
Pick242
Rnd7
Luke Hasz
By-the-book stuff, Luke Hasz at the 242nd overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. A minor itch, scratched.
