The Jets checked most of the boxes and earned a B+. The Jets bet big and early on Oronde Gadsden II, 49 picks ahead of the board. Bold does not always mean right. Call it a sensible B+, earned the boring way.
However the rest shakes out, Fitzgerald at that price is a win they earned. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want.
The Grover Stewart pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns. The roster is better shaped than it was, with quarterback chief among the fixes.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick Analysis
Pick14
Rnd1
Armand Membou
In the 14th pick they get an anchor for the offensive line at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick42
Rnd2
Jihaad Campbell
Nothing to complain about; Jihaad Campbell went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick73
Rnd3
Alfred Collins
Alfred Collins in slot 73 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick110
Rnd4
Chimere Dike
Chimere Dike at pick No. 110 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick117
Rnd4
Mitchell Evans
This one needs a full-page explanation: Mitchell Evans in Round 4, Pick 15, miles early. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick145
Rnd5
Oronde Gadsden II
A big swing on Oronde Gadsden II at the 145th overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick151
Rnd5
Tyler Shough
Value with a capital V on Tyler Shough in the Round 5 slot, a genuine coup. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick162
Rnd5
O'Donnell Fortune
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing O'Donnell Fortune in No. 162. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick186
Rnd6
Ryan Fitzgerald
They robbed the room for Ryan Fitzgerald here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Pick207
Rnd6
Jay Higgins
Jay Higgins at pick 207 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
