Quarterback settled, Howard in the fold, and a B+ for the Jets. There was a run on nobody at that position, and the Jets started one anyway for Trey Moore, 109 picks ahead of schedule. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B+.
The Mondon Jr. pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. Will Howard is the bet, and the class will be judged on how it pays off. Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck.
The cornerback hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but cornerback.
Pick Analysis
Pick25
Rnd1
Will Howard
In the 25th pick they get the face of the franchise, a steep price for the projection. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick42
Rnd2
Kenneth Grant
Steal is underselling it; Kenneth Grant at the Round 2 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick89
Rnd3
Tez Johnson
They took Tez Johnson at par in the 89th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick92
Rnd3
Gunnar Helm
A tight end of that caliber at pick No. 92 is the definition of value, full stop. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick108
Rnd4
Devin Neal
Somehow Devin Neal was still sitting there in Round 4, Pick 7, and they pounced on premier running back value. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick144
Rnd5
Trey Moore
A real head-scratcher, Trey Moore in slot 144 is miles ahead of his ranking. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick155
Rnd5
Rod Moore
They barely believed it either: Rod Moore still on the board at Round 5, Pick 18. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick184
Rnd6
Smael Mondon Jr.
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, Smael Mondon Jr. in the Round 6 slot, plain and simple. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick206
Rnd6
Seth McLaughlin
A slide stopped in the 206th overall pick, with Seth McLaughlin worth more than the price. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
