Draft Grade — Texans
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
A solid, sensible weekend for the Texans: B-.

Nobody else had Austin Barber anywhere near the 59th overall pick. The Texans did, by 24 spots, and that gap is the whole story.

The Slaughter steal is the beam this whole class leans on. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want.

Running back is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Pick Analysis
Pick28 Rnd1 Christen Miller
In the 28th pick they get a wrecking ball inside at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick38 Rnd2 Jonah Coleman
Jonah Coleman at the 38th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick59 Rnd2 Austin Barber
Austin Barber in pick No. 59 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick69 Rnd3 Jake Slaughter
They will replay Jake Slaughter at slot 69 for years; that is how good the value is. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick106 Rnd4 Chase Bisontis
A conviction pick on Chase Bisontis at Round 4, Pick 6 that the board grades a round light. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick128 Rnd4 Jakobe Thomas
No edge and no loss on Jakobe Thomas in the Round 4 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick166 Rnd5 Kevin Coleman Jr.
They let Kevin Coleman Jr. come to them and pounced at Round 5, Pick 27. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick243 Rnd7 Jacobe Johnson
By-the-book stuff, Jacobe Johnson at No. 243 squarely in line with his ranking. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick244 Rnd7 PJ Williams
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and PJ Williams at the 244th pick is the proof. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
