Draft Grade — Browns
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedA-
TradesB-
FutureB-
A franchise passer in Simpson headlines a B- weekend for the Browns. Start where it matters. The Browns took Ty Simpson to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.
They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Simpson has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Hood.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick Analysis
Pick6
Rnd1
Ty Simpson
A reach for Ty Simpson in the Round 1 slot; a little patience would have been rewarded. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick24
Rnd1
Denzel Boston
In the 24th overall pick they get a difference-maker at receiver. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick39
Rnd2
Colton Hood
Colton Hood at pick No. 39 is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick70
Rnd3
Jadarian Price
Value with a capital V on Jadarian Price in No. 70, a genuine coup. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick107
Rnd4
Charles Jagusah
Charles Jagusah in pick 107 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick140
Rnd5
Kage Casey
Kage Casey in Round 5, Pick 1 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick145
Rnd5
Jaden Greathouse
They took Jaden Greathouse at par in the 145th pick, which is nothing to complain about. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick148
Rnd5
Connor Tollison
They went early on Connor Tollison in slot 148, and the value did not follow. It fills a real need, too.
Pick205
Rnd6
Jalon Daniels
Jalon Daniels is a better player than pick No. 205 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick248
Rnd7
Jaylon Braxton
A market-rate safety, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jaylon Braxton. The roster fit checks out.
