Draft Grade — Jets
Overall B-
ValueC+ NeedB+ TradesD+ FutureA
McCarthy is the plan now, and the Jets grade out a B-.

They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. J.J. McCarthy is the Jets' quarterback, full stop. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.

Landing Wallace that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

The cost of the McCarthy reach is exactly the players who went right after him. Quarterback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick18 Rnd1 J.J. McCarthy
In pick 18 they get their guy under center for the next decade, though they paid up to get him. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick72 Rnd3 Patrick Paul
A tidy little value on Patrick Paul in the 72nd overall pick, a step better than break-even. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick117 Rnd4 Theo Johnson
A straight-up fair deal on Theo Johnson at the Round 4 slot, value and slot in agreement. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick135 Rnd4 Javon Foster
Nice patience on Javon Foster, who had no business lasting to Round 4, Pick 35. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick149 Rnd5 Jaylin Simpson
A quiet steal in the 149th pick: Jaylin Simpson for less than the market said. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick185 Rnd6 Cody Schrader
A slide stopped in slot 185, with Cody Schrader worth more than the price. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick256 Rnd7 C.J. Hanson
C.J. Hanson at No. 256 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick257 Rnd7 Trevin Wallace
Circle this one: Trevin Wallace at pick No. 257 is a fall that decides a draft. A minor itch, scratched.
