Grand theft in slot 209: the Jets steal Stout and grade out a B. Somebody in the 209th pick was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Jets sat still while Upton Stout, the No. 178 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher. They will need Membou to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick Analysis
Pick7
Rnd1
Armand Membou
In the 7th overall pick they get a cornerstone up front, though they paid up to get him.
Pick66
Rnd3
Darien Porter
A reach for Darien Porter in pick 66; a little patience would have been rewarded. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick73
Rnd3
Jayden Higgins
Fair-plus on Jayden Higgins, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick109
Rnd4
Jaylin Noel
The board had Jaylin Noel higher than No. 109, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick146
Rnd5
Darius Alexander
Darius Alexander in the 146th pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick157
Rnd5
Tyler Shough
Taking Tyler Shough in slot 157 is close to grand larceny; a quarterback that good had no business lasting this long. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick188
Rnd6
Quincy Riley
A tidy bit of business in the Round 6 slot, where Quincy Riley graded well above the range. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick209
Rnd6
Upton Stout
Upton Stout in Round 6, Pick 31 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
