FutureA+
A sensible, unshowy class lands the Jets a B-. Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Trevor Keegan at the 229th pick is 28 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline.
On value alone, Henderson makes the weekend a net positive. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game. A small leak at the table, if not a fatal one.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick Analysis
Pick28
Rnd1
Troy Fautanu
In the Round 1 slot they get a plug-and-play piece up front. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick78
Rnd3
Brenden Rice
Nothing to complain about; Brenden Rice went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick81
Rnd3
Johnny Wilson
No drama and no debate, Johnny Wilson went about where he belonged in Round 3, Pick 17. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick94
Rnd3
Zak Zinter
Zak Zinter in pick 94 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick134
Rnd4
Ainias Smith
The board had Ainias Smith higher than the 134th overall pick, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick147
Rnd5
Keith Randolph Jr.
A conviction pick on Keith Randolph Jr. at pick No. 147 that the board grades a round light. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick187
Rnd6
LaDarius Henderson
LaDarius Henderson slid further than he should have, and pick 187 is lovely value for the offensive lineman. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick229
Rnd7
Trevor Keegan
Trevor Keegan in the 229th pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick253
Rnd7
Zion Nelson
A straight-up fair deal on Zion Nelson at the Round 7 slot, value and slot in agreement. The roster fit checks out.
Pick255
Rnd7
Mark Perry
Mark Perry at No. 255 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick256
Rnd7
Zakhari Franklin
Good price on Zakhari Franklin in Round 7, Pick 36, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It fills a real need, too.
